Dr. Murphy is a Consultant in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He began his University Studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada where he obtained a BSc in Biology. His medical training began at the University of the West Indies (Mona) where he completed his M.B.B.S and internship (UHWI). Dr. Murphy specialized in Internal Medicine and was granted a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) at the University of the West Indies (Mona). He further specialized in Gastroenterology by completing a three year fellowship in Gastroenterology, Advance Endoscopy (including ERCP) and Functional Bowel Disorders at McMaster University (Hamilton, Canada).
Dr. Murphy is recognized for his special training and patient care using advanced endoscopic therapies and hepatobiliary procedures (ERCP). Dr. Murphy has also been instrumental in promoting advanced endoscopic procedures at the UHWI as well as Island Medical Specialists.
Dr. Murphy is a founding member of Island Medical Specialists. With over two decades of clinical practice experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in both the public and private settings, Dr. Murphy continues to pursue his goal of providing the best gastrointestinal medical care for the people of Jamaica.
In addition to his work at Island Medical Specialists, Dr. Murphy is an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West Indies, a past Secretary and President of the Association of West Indian Gastroenterologists (AWIG) and has been the Course Coordinator for the Post Graduate AWIG Course for the past 7 years. Dr Murphy has been a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) since 2004.
