Dr. Richard Kellermayer, M.D., Ph.D. is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program at Texas Children’s Hospital, affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, and of the Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) Program as well. He also serves as Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. A distinguished pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Kellermayer specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections, and fecal microbiota transplantation. He led Texas Children’s Hospital’s involvement in the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (CCF)-sponsored RISK study—one of the largest multicenter research efforts focused on early-onset Crohn’s disease. Dr. Kellermayer’s clinical and research interests are centered on improving outcomes for children with complex gastrointestinal conditions. His work explores the nutritional, genetic, epigenetic, and microbial underpinnings of IBD and PSC. He is particularly recognized for his expertise in FMT and for advancing microbiome-based therapies in pediatric populations. Dr. Kellermayer earned his Doctor of Medicine degree summa cum laude from the University Medical School of Pécs in 1997, followed by a pediatric residency at the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo in 2003. He completed his Ph.D. in Molecular and Medical Human Genetics in 2005 at the University Medical School of Pécs, and went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, in 2008. He is the author of over 185 peer-reviewed publications and is an internationally recognized authority in pediatric gastroenterology. Dr. Kellermayer has been repeatedly invited to speak at the World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (WCPGHAN), underscoring his global reputation as a leader in pediatric IBD research and care.
