Speaker Bio
Rahima A. Bhanji, MD, MSc, FRCPC went to medical school at the University of Alberta. She received her training in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and hepatology at the University of Alberta. Her training in Hepatology was supported by Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver Clinical Fellowship. She then completed an advanced Transplant Hepatology Research Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, USA. Rahima Bhanji also holds a master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is a consultant in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Dr. Bhanji provides clinical care for patients with chronic liver disease and end-stage liver disease needing liver transplantation and post-transplant care.
Areas of clinical expertise include:
• Managing debility in patients with end-stage liver disease
• Optimizing outcomes following recurrent MASLD after liver transplant
• Improving long-term outcomes after liver transplantation, including complications related to immunosuppression, metabolic abnormalities, renal dysfunction and cardiovascular disease
